A California based ICAC Detective recently deployed Cyacomb Examiner Plus when executing a search warrant on a suspect who refused to provide their laptop password. Cyacomb Examiner Plus’ USB bootable feature gave the Detective the opportunity to scan the device for illegal material:
“Our ICAC team was executing a search warrant and discovered a laptop connected to a television in the suspect’s bedroom. The laptop had the suspect’s name and email listed as the logged in user but they refused to provide the password to the (Windows) laptop. However, because we had ‘Cyacomb Examiner Plus’, I knew we had an opportunity to scan the device for contraband… Cyacomb’s unique ability to boot directly from its USB dongle afforded us the opportunity to effectively bypass the password and scan the device.”
Whether run from a forensic computer, bootable media, or live on suspect devices, Cyacomb Examiner Plus supports Detectives to rapidly scan for known illegal content. Cyacomb’s tools were created to support Law Enforcement to find CSAM (Child Sexual Abuse Material) quickly and easily. It’s great to hear a real-life case where these unique features helped prosecute a dangerous suspect and safeguard victims.
“This [scanning the device using Cyacomb Examiner Bootable] resulted in us locating two compilation CSAM videos (one over an hour long) and with that, the additional evidence needed to prosecute our suspect. I have found this functionality invaluable in our mission.”
