Dallas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force did a side-by-side comparison on a live CSAM case involving multiple devices. Their current tool took 45 minutes to first results, which were false positives. The complete report took several hours. Cyacomb’s technology accurately identified CSAM in under 20 seconds, and the complete report was available in 4 minutes. Detective Mike Fontenot said “I went from the hardest skeptic of Cyacomb, to seeing the true potential of the product to hasten investigations and assist police departments across the world in protecting children and holding predators accountable for their crimes."

Detective Mike Fontenots's word-for-word account of his Cyacomb Forensics experience is also outlined below:

“The Dallas Police Department’s ICAC entered a trial period with Cyacomb after initially receiving a “canned” presentation of the forensic tool.  I have always had an issue with canned presentations as they tend to present the tool in question in the best light instead of real-world parameters.  This gave me a healthy dose of skepticism towards Cyacomb’s triage tool.  Shortly after the presentation we executed a search warrant for the possession/promotion of child pornography/child sexual abuse material.  During the execution of the search warrant, we utilized forensic software that has been available and widely used by the ICAC industry for years.  This software took hours to complete the initial report and took approximately 30 – 45 minutes before we could even view the first media content files (even then the files were not child pornography/child sexual abuse material).  Even after the interview of the Suspect was done and a complete search of the residence was completed, we were still on scene conducting triage on the devices found in the residence.  We ended up seizing numerous external hard drives, thumb drives, SD cards, and cell phones.

We came back to the lab with the devices seized and known to contain child pornography/child sexual abuse material.  We took those same devices and connected them to a forensic workstation running Cyacomb’s triage tool.  We connected 2 external hard drives (500GBs each) and 3 thumb drives (16GBs, and 2 64GBs) to Cyacomb’s tool.  We received an initial positive hit for the presence of child pornography/child sexual abuse material in approximately 10 – 15 seconds and within 45 seconds had positive hits on all the devices for the presence of child pornography/child sexual abuse material.

The idea of triage is the rapid examination of devices to determine if illegal content is present not to find all the illegal content on the device.  Cyacomb has taken a process that until now has taken hours to complete and reduced that time down to less than a minute.  This was not a “canned” presentation, but a real-world application on seized devices from an actual search warrant.  Cyacomb understands that time is critical for Detectives and has produced a product of genuine quality that exceeded my expectations in a real-world setting.  As anyone in my squad will attest, I went from the hardest skeptic of Cyacomb, to seeing the true potential of the product to hasten investigations and assist police departments across the world in protecting children and holding these true predators accountable for their crimes.”
